World Cup Memories and A Shameless Plug

It has been an amazing month of football, and for everyone associated with the Spanish World Cup blog and the entire website, I want to thank everyone who read the posts and left comments (bonus points for comments!) before, during and after the tournament. Ade, Jeremy, Cam and myself of course would not have done this if we did expect great reactions from the readers, so again, thanks for making this a pleasurable experience. With the World Cup now over, and Spain the champions, we will not be ditching this blog completely. Expect continued, although
admittedly lighter, coverage of the Spanish national team and all the news concerning. It wont be long before we are back in the swing of things with international dates in August, including a friendly against Mexico at the Azteca (as an American, I hate that place, but it will be a great experience for the team) as well as the beginning of the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign, which Spain is firm favorites for.

Also a quick reminder, which I will expound upon in a later post, is that the Spanish u-19 team will kick off their European Championship campaign this Sunday against Croatia at 16:00. If you would like to get a glimpse of the future of the national team, check out the youngsters as they compete for another youth title. The u-17 team lost in the final to England before the World Cup kicked off, lets hope for better for the u-19 team.

Now for the shameless plugs. Despite our (Ade and myself) continued interest in maintaining this blog, we will point out that we are both club bloggers, specifically for the sister site of the World Cup Blog, which is called The Offside. The Offside is a collection of a team blogs that both informs and entertains. Trust me, I have been around the site for almost five years now. Ade writes for the Barcelona team blog, I write for the Real Madrid team blog. And we worked so well together this summer too! Anyways, our efforts will now return to our club blogs, but we will keep updating this site during international weeks and when something pops up.

I will also point out that we have several other great team blogs, such as Al for Atletico Madrid, Paul for Athletic Bilbao, Jeremy for Real Mallorca (my personal favorite), Joshua and Anthony for Sevilla and finally Javier for Valencia. There are a few empty blogs too, especially the promoted sides and curiously enough Villarreal. If you would like to write about your favorites Spanish club team, or even just help out with an active blog, feel free to email me at cnfiske@gmail.com.

I also do some writing for another general interest La Liga site, called La Liga Weekly. There is also a podcast, which brings together Real Madrid and Barcelona fans for a weekly chat on the state of the two teams as well as the league, which can be found here. And finally, after the final I participated in a podcast for an Indian site, the Indicast, with Jan of the Netherlands World Cup blog. You can listen to my thoughts on the final at Indicast. Had enough of all of the links yet?
Finally, a friend of mine who has been reading my Real Madrid blog for some time emailed a very nice post on his memories of the tournament, in A to Z fashion. A great way to cap off the tournament, which we won, with a look back on the month that was.
